For many betrayed partners, discovering hidden sexual behavior raises complex questions about consent, truth, and bodily autonomy. Many realize, after the discovery, that they consented to intimacy within a relationship built on secret sexual behaviors, undisclosed risks, or hidden lives.  This experience is often referred to as sexual deception or rape by fraud.

As part of my work, I am conducting confidential research on the experiences of betrayed partners who feel they have experienced rape by deception within intimate relationships.

By collecting real-life accounts of betrayal trauma and sexual deception, my goal is to illuminate the scope of this harm, develop language that validates survivors’ experiences, and contribute to meaningful cultural and legal reform.
